Ireland’s literary history began with the writing of Ogham, much of which is found in Kerry but was set both in history and the mythology of the Tuatha de Dannan. Irish illuminated manuscripts are renowned – the Book of Innisfallen was written here. Translation from oral tradition of the Brehon Codex was significant and Irish writers of the last three centuries are recognised everywhere – James Joyce, W.B. Yeats, Oscar Wilde and Jonathan Swift are but a few. The mythology and history that is part of this place of learning, its mysteries and the sacred, makes County Kerry and the Bleachfield the ideal site for contemporary writers to feel right at home in their chosen profession.
